New Trier High School Board members Monday approved almost $575,000 in purchases aimed at making their two campuses more secure, but not before one board member said she¡¯d like more information about the purchases.

Board members unanimously approved paying $204,926 to install shatter-resistant film on selected interior windows at both the Winnetka and Northfield campuses. They also approved constructing secure entry vestibules at the Winnetka campus¡¯s north, west and east entries at a cost of $370,000.

Freshmen attend the Northfield campus while the other three grade levels attend school in Winnetka. The new double-buzz entryways will give school staff more control over who can get into the building during school hours, said Dave Conway, the district¡¯s director of physical plant services. He told board members that much of the cost is because the vestibule systems require the replacement of existing doors.

The work is expected to be this summer.

Board member Carol Ducommun told administrators that she understood the district couldn¡¯t make public everything about the security upgrades.

However, all the improvements approved so far total almost a million dollars, she said.
